Webmontag Special in Munich on December 8th - Adobe Flex and PHP

Anyone in the Munich region with interest in RIA, Adobe Flex and PHP: don't miss the Webmontag/Web Monday on Dec 8th 2008!. Mihai Corlan, the Adobe Platform Evangelist for EMEA will talk about the following subjects:

  • How to create, debug PHP and Flex applications; Using Zend Studio IDE and Flex Builder IDE
  • How to bring data to an AIR application from a PHP backend: using REST, AMF (AMFPHP, Zend AMF)
  • Examples of real life PHP and Flex/AIR applications

The event is co-hosted with the PHP User Group Munich, the Flex User Group Munich and sponsored by Adobe and Optaros.

I've personally been working with Flash based RIA technologies for more than 4 years. My first experience with Flex was with the Flex 1.5 version. Since then the technology has definitely matured, making it one of the best solutions for creating modern web UIs. Projects like Tamarin and the OpenScreens initiative by Adobe - accompanied by the open sourcing of technologies like the Flex SDK, BlazeDS - are a clear sign for Adobe's change towards an open source and open standards strategy.

BarCampSeoul 3 on Dec 13th 2008

It has been on my list of planned Barcamps and I'm very sorry that I'll have to leave this one out: BarCampSeoul3 in Seoul, South Korea! The 3rd BarCamp in Seoul will focus on the present and future of media. Hosted by Daum and organized by Hollobit and Channy Yun.

You can register on this page, but sorry, only Korean!

I haven't had the time to follow all the latest web trends in South Korea, but anyone interested in the latest web trends in one of the most advanced web societies shouldn't miss this Barcamp. Enjoy the event and promised: I'll be there next year!

OpenLaszlo, SWF9, ActionScript3 and Flex Libraries

Antun Karlovac of Laszlo has an interesting blog post with an OpenLaszlo showing how it's possible to use Flex/AS3 SWC libraries for the OpenLaszlo SWF9 runtime.

That's a valuable example as many people have been asking to support SWC import into OpenLaszlo apps in the past. This will probably take away 2 hours of my sleep tonight, as I just have to play around with that feature. Thanks Antun & Henry!

I'm back to the blogosphere

After a longer period of less blogging and more thinking I've decided to go back online with a new blog system and a new domain. I started blogging with Wordpress under the domain name www.openlaszlonaut.de in March 2005. I took that blog offline in early 2008, and since then have been thinking about what I'm going to do with the old blog.

I was so busy in the last 4 years, and really enjoyed the period with less time spent for blogging in 2008. Well, that's going to change...

Thanks to the Habari developers for coming up with this state-of-the-art blogging tool. I'm not sure if I have enough time to dive into development, but I'll definitely try do give something back to the community by posting a few blog entries and telling people about the Habari Project, maybe throwing in a few bug reports and fixes in the time to come.
